Dara’s rise to fame began in the Philippines on the Star Circle Quest talent show in 2004. She then released her first album, Sandara, and it sold over 100,000 physical copies. It was the only album that went platinum in the Philippines by a South Korean artist. During her time in the Philippines, between 2004 and 2007, she also made a name for herself as an actress in such films as Bcuz of U; she won the Best New Actress award for her role in that movie at the 21st PMPC Star Award for Movies. After becoming a famous personality in the Philippines, Dara returned to south Korea in 2007.

2NE1 debuted Dara in 2009 when they released their single “Fire,” which made the group famous almost instantaneously. In that same year, she and 2NE1 band mate CL released a single called “Kiss,” which was her first single in Korea. In 2014, the group went on hiatus, giving Dara a chance to focus on her television career while she co-hosted Two Yoo Project Sugar Man, a South Korean variety show. Dara added to her acting resume with roles in several web series which included 2016’s Dr. Ian; her role in this series won her the Best Actress award at a web festival in Korea. Singer-songwriter Minzy was born as Gong Minji in South Korea and is famous for her role in the South Korean girl group 2NE1 and her solo career.

Minzy is the granddaughter of Gong Ok-jin, the famed South Korean folk dancer. She moved between her birthplace of Seoul and Gwangju as a young girl with her family while her father worked.

She won a number of awards for her participation in a variety of dance competitions, and when a video of a competition in Gwangju she participated in went viral on the internet, millions were praising her dancing abilities. This caused the YG homepage CEO Yang Hyun-suk to contact and recruit young 6th grader Minzy for the agency.

In the beginning of 2009, YG Entertainment made the announcement that they would be premiering a four-piece group which had been training for the last four years. The band was originally going to be called 21, but that changed when it was discovered that there was already an artist going by that name, thus the group’s name was changed to 2NE1; the NE was meant to stand for “New Evolution.” Minzy fell into place as the group’s youngest member at only 15 as the main dancer when 2NE1’s first single “Fire” was released in May of 2009. On April 5th, 2016, Minzy officially left the group as well as YG Entertainment Agency.

After leaving 2NE1 and YG Entertainment Minzy signed with Music Works, the subsidiary label of CJ E&M. Then on January 17th, 2017, Minzy was a confirmed cast member of Sister’s Slam Dunk’s second season along with Hong Jin-kyung, Kim Sook, Han Chae-young, Hong Jin-young, Kang Ye-won, and Jeon So-mi. When the show broadcast on February 10th, Minzy was set by the legendary singer-songwriter Kim Hyung Suk to be the main singer and dancer, choreographer, and dance instructor for the Unnies second incarnation. She released her first solo single “I Wanted Love” as MBC’s drama The Rebel’s soundtrack in February of 2019, then went on to release her first album Minzy Work 01 on April 17th, 2019, featuring “Uno” and the title track “Ninano.”
